The time has come to finally renovate the bathroom in our rental unit. With a limited window of time and a tight budget, we had to make some smart choices on finishes and fixtures that would make a statement, but remain classic for another 25-50 years. Below are some of the ‘before’ images and design thoughts. Updates to come as the space shapes up…

Space is a premium and we love those vintage ‘flip’ metal pieces.

We were able to find a last minute toilet paper holder from Anthropologie. We liked how the simple, but classic design fit right in with the rest of the elements.

We had to change out the mirror to better fit the space and was able to score a vintage find at a local market. We painted it blue and had the mirror glass replaced at a local glass company. When all was said and done we appreciated how the blue color was neutral enough to suit most everyone and also tied together the grey/blue tint of the flower detail in the black hex tile floor.

We designed a custom feature in the black hex tile floor to add something special to the small space. The tile flowers are a grey/blue with a white tile center.

Our house was built in 1905 and has some really wonderful character in the trim and door hardware throughout. We wanted to maintain some of this character by picking tile and materials that will honor a classic aesthetic. To that effect, we chose a 4x8” white subway tile, a black hex tile floor, along with mirrors and lighting that have a vintage feel. We also chose to use bead board on the walls for easier maintenance and plan to paint it in a high-gloss black. We selected all Kohler products, knowing that quality products will last us a long time!
